W. Eric Martin wrote:Designer Antoine Bauza has posted info about 7 Wonders: Leaders, on display at the Nürnberg 2011 Toy Fair. The white-backed Leader cards are played at the start of each of the game's three ages, not mixed with the other cards, and they cost money to be played, not resources. The expansion will likely include 35 cards along with a new double-sided wonder.

Bauza also notes that in response to comments from buyers, the next print run of 7 Wonders will have a plastic insert instead of a cardboard one, and cardboard coins instead of wooden ones.
W. Eric Martin wrote:In more news from Nürnberg 2011, French website Jedisjeux reports that Dixit has sold 350,000 copies so far and will be followed by a new standalone game from designer Jean-Louis Roubira titled Dixit: l'Odyssée. While the game will include new rule variants, including a team option that allows for up to ten players, the cards – once again bearing art from Mary Cardouat – can also be mixed with those in the base game and expansion.

After nearly ten years of publishing best-selling board games based in Blizzard Entertainment’s popular fantasy realm, we at Fantasy Flight Games must announce that our licensing agreement for all Warcraft products has expired. We are immensely proud of Warcraft: The Board Game, World of Warcraft: The Board Game, and World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game.

"Sturm Europa! is a grand strategic simulation, currently in pre-production, that recreates the entire European conflict during the Second World War. Wooden blocks are used to depict army sized units that create "fog of war" by not revealing unit type and strength until committed to battle. Sturm Europa! will distinguish itself from other games of the genre in these key areas:

Playability: The entire war, 1939 to the bitter end (Spring 1945 or later), can truly be played out in 12 hours or less (scenarios can be completed in 2-4 hours). This is achieved by employing 3 month turns and low unit density (army sized units blocks). Detail will not be sacrificed in smaller scale battles such as amphibious/airborne assaults or the Africa campaign through the use of innovative game mechanics.

Scale: The map board will employ area movement over land regions but the low block density allows players to realize the full impact of mobile warfare and appreciate the daunting size of Mother Russia without slowing game play unnecessarily. A unique front-reserve combat system allows for operational level details like blitzkriegs, assaults, encirclements, feints, static defense, and defense in depth which are details normally lost in grand-strategic simulations.

Units: Units are not only rated by movement, strength (steps), and firepower but also by quality. Elite units fire first and are much more effective at exploitation and sustained operations. Quality introduces a dimension that makes every unit truly unique as it can be upgraded and downgraded as the war progresses to reflect varying levels of experience, training, leadership, and technology.

Production: Sturm Europa! goes beyond the standard model of linking military production to a GDP estimate. Nations must mobilize to achieve full wartime production but it takes much more to wage war than just massive production lines. Manpower, oil, steel, and even trained pilots are all tracked without ANY bookkeeping through an innovative system of colored resource cubes. Resources are consumed with prolonged offensives so logistics plays just as much a factor as unit strength.

Strategy Cards: Sturm Europa! is a card driven game (i.e. Paths of Glory) but plays much more like a traditional wargame than other CDGs. The events introduce political, historical, and technological events in a realistic fashion without scripting or constant "look up" rules. There is a tangible cause-effect relationship to every event and nothing occurs in a seemingly random or ahistorical manner. Players play the cards - the cards don't play the players. Most importantly, the core mechanic of tough gut wrenching decisions which make CDGs so fun is still preserved.

Technology: Players can customize their units to fight the style of war that best suits their strategy. Germany can develop the He 100 long range fighter that greatly improves their chances in the Battle of Britain. The Americans can develop a heavy-medium tank instead of sending Shermans to get chewed up by King Tigers. Tough decisions will have to be made to implement new technologies though. New designs don't just start rolling off the assembly lines without causing a shortage of replacements on the front line while the factories retool and crews retrain...
"

Va spuneam intr-un post anterior de existenta unui nou joc in universul Race for the Galaxy. Ei, pentru cei interesati, creatorul jocului, Tom Lehmann, a dat pe BGG urmatoarele detalii:
Tom Lehmann wrote:Sure, I can discuss the next Race arc a bit more now. It is a single expansion, called Alien Artifacts, consisting of two parts:

* ~45 new cards and start worlds to add to (only) the base set, plus a set of action cards and start hand for a fifth player.

* ~45 cards and Alien tokens used to represent the Alien Orb which players jointly map and explore, gaining tokens of various types that provide powers and VPs. There are also five new Explore action cards used to map the Orb (instead of gaining an additional card or greater card selection).

The Alien Orb scenario provides a new RFTG experience, as players have to balance how much effort, resources, and actions they wish to put into exploring the Orb versus developing their empires.

Military is used to get past certain doorways and to open some caches. Various Alien artifacts (tokens picked up), in turn, affect the empire portion of the game, by providing discounts, one-shot abilities, and counting towards some of the new 6-cost developments.

Depending on how closely the Alien survey teams bunch up within the orb, choosing Orb Explore becomes important in order to have your survey team move before other teams to grab a token (the players that chose Orb Explore get to add to the map and move before the players who didn't choose that action). This adds another tension to the RFTG action choice mechanism: do you race other players to grab tokens or move away from them and then just leech their Orb Explores to pick up a token or two?

The number of Alien Orb cards used scales with the number of players and mapping the entire Orb is another game end condition.

Everything gets used in the Alien Orb scenario, while players can also play the base game with just the new cards and start worlds.

Because of this modular nature, I split this expansion's development into two parts: first, just getting a card set that plays well with the base set, and then getting the Orb scenario to work. In particular, I wanted to make sure that the various developments that interact with the Orb scenario were still viable without it, though a bit weaker or more specialized.

I'm happy to report that the new card set works quite well and is fairly stable (just one card has changed in the last month). The expansion plus base set (without the Orb stuff) currently totals 160 play cards and start worlds. That's a nice number (20 less than RFTG + GS + RvI), that is neither too hard to shuffle nor has too high variance.

Three things I strongly wanted in this "reboot" were: A) to keep things simple (so even brand new players could easily play with this expansion); B) to keep the "power creep" in the new cards under control; and C) to ensure that all the base set cards remained useful. I'm pretty happy with the results.

There are only ~10 new powers (+4 powers for just the Orb scenario) and only 3 somewhat complicated powers in the entire set. Over half the cards don't have any text at all. Yet, I managed to come up with a lot of interesting twists using just existing base set powers.

Here's a concrete example:

***Imperium*** Stealth Tactics, 2 cost, 1 VP development, +1 Military, may discard this card from tableau for +3 Military (additional) this phase.

Essentially, this is New Military Tactics glued to a +1 Military power. It's very flexible, but costs 2. Would you rather have New Military Tactics, Expedition Force, Space Marines, or it?

Typical winning scores with this expansion are in the 30-45 point range, rarely getting to 55. This is very similar to playing with just the base set, which indicates that I've been reasonably successful at keeping the power level of the new cards in check.

I've been very sparing with Consume powers in this expansion, to make sure that base set cards such as Expanding Colony, Outlaw World, etc. remain useful. A few base set cards have also gained specific VP scoring boosts from new 6-cost developments.

The only thing we use from the first expansion arc is the deal two and choose a start world after seeing your starting six cards mechanic introduced in Rebel versus Imperium. Nothing else.

I'm currently working on the Orb Scenario. Then the production slog occurs, so publication is more than 6 months away. A few weeks before it apears, I'll post a more detailed preview.

from http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/922855

Arkham Horror: Miskatonic Horror
ah-miskatonic-box.png
A recent find at Miskatonic University has unearthed even more mysteries pertaining to the strange happenings in Arkham, Massachusetts. While the worshippers of the Ancient One grow in strength, the stalwart defenders of this sleepy town are put to the ultimate test.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Miskatonic Horror, an expansion for Arkham Horror. The fight against the unknown forces of the cosmos is far from over, and those that thought they stood a chance against the mythos have a lesson to learn.

Miskatonic Horror is a new type of Arkham Horror expansion that builds upon the materials found in the ample library of other Arkham Horror expansions. While the components and rules found in Miskatonic Horror can be enjoyed with only the Arkham Horror base game, the more expansions you incorporate, the more aspects of Miskatonic Horror you can enjoy.

With nearly 450 new cards, Miskatonic Horror adds new Mythos and Location cards for Dunwich, Kingsport, and Innsmouth, as well as new cards for Gates, Epic Battles, Relationships, Injuries, Madness, Skills, Blights, and much more. Miskatonic Horror provides new materials for every Arkham Horror expansion.

Continue your Investigations

Miskatonic Horror includes:

•New Skill, Gate, and Mythos cards for the Arkham Horror base game
•Additional Exhibit Item cards for Curse of the Dark Pharaoh
•New Injury, Madness, Dunwich Location, and Dunwich Horror cards for Dunwich Horror, as well as an all new Dunwich Horror Herald sheet
•More Blight and Act cards for The King in Yellow
•New Kingsport Location, Epic Battle, Blessings of Noden, and Visions of Hypnos cards for Kingsport Horror
•Over 20 new Cult Encounter cards for The Black Goat of the Woods
•New Innsmouth Location and Innsmouth Look cards for Innsmouth Horror
•Additional Relationship cards and Reckoning cards for Lurker at the Threshold
•Plus new Player reference sheets and a new Institution variant!
Just a Taste of the Coming Terrors

As you can see, Miskatonic Horror is packed with new material for the Arkham Horror base game and each of its expansions. Whether you're looking to expand your Arkham Horror base game, or enhance your expansions, Miskatonic Horror is a veritable library of new material.

To get an idea of how your Arkham Horror expansions can be enhanced by Miskatonic Horror, let's take a look at what's in store for players seeking to learn more about the mysterious cult in The Black Goat of the Woods.

The Black Goat of the Woods expansion adds several new features to Arkham Horror, such as corruption cards and the “One of the Thousand” cult membership cards. Miskatonic Horror further expands the presence of this elusive cult by adding a new deck of Cult Encounter cards to be added to those found in The Black Goat of the Woods.

Players must discover the secrets of this growing cult presence in Arkham, but in order to learn its secrets they must infiltrate the secret society. When investigators choose to join the “One of the Thousand” cult, they must draw alternative Encounter cards when snooping around the darker corners of Arkham.

The Cult Encounter deck from The Black Goat of the Woods adds an exciting twist to your normal encounters, and Miskatonic Horror enhances this by delving further into the cult and drawing players deeper into the story that surrounds it

In addition to the cards, Miskatonic Horror also includes player reference sheets to easily keep track of the different happenings in Arkham that correlate with the number of players. These sheets will tell you how many Gates can be open, the Monster Limit (in both the streets and the Outskirts), and how many monsters appear when a Gate opens, all based on the number of investigators present.

Finally, Miskatonic Horror introduces the Institution variant. Similar to the Herald and Guardian variants introduced in earlier expansions, the Institution variant allows players to choose an Institution sheet to incorporate into their game. Several powerful organizations exist in Arkham, each one with their own agenda. When using the Institution variant, one of these organizations is put into play and that Institution will provide investigators with new options and benefits during their game. Stay tuned for more information on these influential Institutions, and what they can do for your investigation.

Open the doors to Miskatonic University and experience the new discoveries that await you with Miskatonic Horror. Whether you're looking to expand your base game, or anxious to enhance each of your Arkham Horror expansions, Miskatonic Horror will deliver. But beware... the terrors that lie inside are expanding, and soon you will see more of what lies in wait for your future Arkham Horror experiences.
