Re: Moongha Invaders

Project Update #7: Catching up
Happy New Year to everybody. Sorry for the delay in responding to comments. You will have to be patient with me as I have a number of projects on the go at the same time and tend to only be able to focus on one thing at at time. Add the fact that I am emigrating to New Zealand next month and so things are a little busy at the moment.
The nature of board game production is one of lulls followed by short periods of activity. The sculptures have been quoted for but the people in question cannot begin work until the end of feb. However, I have a few other contacts that I am following up. The sculpts and having the plastic pieces made are going to be the thing that determines when the game can be ready.
Most of the artwork is done, as you know. Tim will be able to finish it soon I am sure. Getting the rest o f the game produced is the easy part as I know that inside out and have all of the contacts I need.
I am arranging for special dice so that 4, 5 and 6 will be marked differently.
I have spoken to a UK company about the app and they are working out a costing.
I will have to look up this customer poll feedback thing - all of this is still pretty new to me.
All the best

Project Update #9: The slow period
Hi everybody,
Sorry for the delay since the last update. I have recently emigrated to New Zealand and so things have been a little hectic for me recently. However, I am now settled in and getting back to business.
Not much to report. Tim had to take a break from the artwork to finish some other projects but he is now back on the job, so hopefully will be some more stuff to show soon - specifically the female hero.
The biggest issue I have at the moment is getting the sculptures done. I had contacted a company who said they could start work on this at the beginning of March. I have emailed them a few times to check what's happening but no answer yet. This may be due to the fact that I am in an area where the internet is not great - I know for a fact certain emails are not reaching friends in the UK. I have asked Tim to contact them to see if they are getting my emails. As this is critical I am also contacting other companies who can create the sculptures just in case this company fail to deliver. Hopefully I will know more in the next week or so.
Will keep you informed of progress on this.

O veste proasta de la Martin... Se pare ca nu jocul nu are sanse sa apara inainte de Essen
Project Update #10: Some progress
As you already know, the folks I had lined up to do the sculpts bailed on the project - not answering emails. Fortunately I have managed to contact Weta, the company responsible for production on such films as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Avatar. There are some seriously talented sculptors there, so hopefully they will a) be able to help out, and b) do a damn fine job of it.
Meeting the intended release date looks a little optimistic now. What I can say is that I will be moving heaven and earth to make sure the game is out before Essen - you can never afford to miss the biggest game show on the planet.

Project Update #11: Have found sculptors
I have now managed to track down some sculptors over here who are happy to work on the figures. Both are experienced and have worked for Weta at some point in time. They aim to have the sculpts ready by the end of June. It will then take another month to make the moulds. For the KS version my plan is to have the rest of the game produced in Germany and air freight the plastic pieces over to speed up production, and also ensure a good quality product. After that the copies for general distribution will probably be produced in China. If all goes well the game should be ready to ship by October 2013.
I have had a few people sending changes of address. Don't worry if you move. I will be asking for your addresses closer to the time of production.
I now have a Twitter account, which is Martintreefrog1.
Th anks for your patience.

Project Update #13: Progress report
The sculptors have started work. I have do not have images to show at the moment but will do once I have pics of the final articles. I have seen the work in progress but I do not want to post it in case somebody thinks its the final design. However, even the half-finished sculpt looks good.

Stiri proaste in ceea ce priveste data de lansare - acum este in Noiembrie (dupa Essen)
Project Update #17: Good news and not so good news
Posted by Max Michael Like
The good news is that Gary and Anton have almost finished the sculpts. Once they are all done I will post them on the Treefrog website so you can see them all on one page. All I can say is they look great - the pictures so far do not do them justice.
The not so good news is that it is very unlikely that we will have the game ready for Essen (3rd week in October). I asked the Chinese manufacturers exactly how long it will take to make the pieces, here is the reply:
Dear Martin,
Below is the production timeline for your reference.
- As per your information before, the sculpture will be provided by you. Re-sculpting figured will take 2 week if the original sculpture has problem to build the open.
- Building the mould will take around 35 days after all the figures are approved.
- 1st shoot test sample will take 7-10 days
- Each time of improvement will take around 7 weeks. For example, assuming some figures you feel are not good enough, we have to improve the mould. Each improvement will take around 7 days.
- Delivery the physical sample for approval will take around 5-7 days.
- Mass production will take around 30 days after the samples are approval.
- Printing will take around 45 days after the all the artworks are received and approved.
- Shipping time from China to Germany will take around 35 days.
Assuming the samples is approved in one time, not necessary to make any improvements, the soonest production time will be around 126 days (more than 4 months).
Essen show will be in Oct 24-27 which I checked from Website, so the time is not enough to deliver the mass production.
End of message.
It may still be possible, but I have to be honest and say the chances are low. If all goes well we will probably be looking at shipping the game in November.

Project Update #20: Moongha update
Although the sculpts are done I had to have casts made before sending them off to China. Two reasons, good to have copies if originals meet with an accident, and useful to have for prototypes and pics.
These casts are now done and a set will be sent to China. Not sure about final print time as depends on how long it takes to get molds made.

Update #21 · Sep 30, 2013
The Chinese now have the sculpts and will start work on the molds soon - just have a national holiday to get out of the way.
I'm travelling back to the UK today and will be at Essen in a few weeks time. I have samples of the pieces with me, so if you are at the show come by and ask to look at them, hall 1, booth F/160.
I will know more about production times once the Chinese have worked out how long the tool will take to make - it's not that simple a process.
thanks for your patience. When you see the final figurines you will be amazed - they are quite chunky!

Project Update #22: All quiet on the Moongha front
Hi everybody,
There will be a period of not much happening as the Chinese work out how to produce the pieces. This will take some time as producing a die mold is very complex, hence the expense. The costs have already gone up due to the pieces being larger than expected. The game will not be ready until after Xmas. Will let you know more when I know more.
Thanks for your patience in this matter. This whole plastic thing has been a real learning curve for me.
